So we can keep creating and inspiring MAGIC in their lives..

Highlights from this month at Hursey and Murray LaSaine Elementary

We are so blessed to have so many different ways to create. The goal in the Creativity Laboratory is to inspire creativity and self confidence through multimedia visual art, performance art and  real life experiential learning. Experiences in school and out of school have been graciously donated by the North Charleston Cultural Arts Center, the Gaillard Center  and the Gibbes Museum of Art.
"Donors Choose" is the way all of the friends family and community can give a little, to help a lot!
The opportunity to give to help us keep inspiring magic in the lives of many children is running out of time. Only $265.00 left to get our project fully funded! If this project doesn't  get fully funded by the deadline, we lose donations already promised. Please help us reach our goal!

"Never do for a child that which he can do for himself" Maria Montessori

My thoughts today.. I am blessed to live in a beautifully inspiring, joyful and collaborative new city. I work out of two schools which has its challenges. I have so many students it is very hard to remember their names and get to know each of them like I would like to. They show me everyday that they LOVE ART! I try to give them each and every opportunity that I can possibly fit in.
I am trying to set up a new way for each of them to gain extra tactile practice in all art areas. This is to enable them to dive deeper into medium that they may not get extra time in due to the fact that our lessons are quick and only once a week. My Donors choose project still needs 300+ dollars to make it happen. If everyone who reads this gave 2-5 dollars, it would be funded. Both schools would benefit. Many students would get extra time and supplies to express themselves through art, create extensions for history projects and illustrate books in a variety of ways. Art provides peaceful ways to calm even the most difficult behavioral choice. It also supplements all curriculum areas in the regular classroom. Please help us reach our goal.
With joy,
Ms. Heather Teems

When children create artistic representations of themselves or things they love, you see JOY. Joy is in us, not in things.
The Joy is evident during the process of children creating. Sometimes the process is a challenge the students have to struggle with, but the product brings them Joy in the end.
Art is Joy.
We are in the process of many different expressions of love for our community within each art class.  These are some of the products and a few steps in the process this week.

Thank you for your support and  trusting us with  your children.

Love is Peace

September has been very busy! We have read books, explored oil pastels, watercolor, and  collaging.  The exploratory classes at Hursey visited the Gibbes Art Museum downtown!
The students have been expressing their personalities through their art and exploring new media.

Here are a few photos from the past 2 weeks!
