The reason for art:
Art is created to express, inspire, invoke, involve, reveal, give and to love. Tonight I saw Fahamu Pecou at the Halsey Institute at C of C.
I took my students lastyear to see some of his work and we discussed it before hand.

There is a reason for art.  Some politicians or financial advisors on school boards may not see the importance... But we all benefit from the creative souls that walk among us. We all listen, we all look, we all taste, we all feel .. Performing art , books,  fine arts, culinary arts , parks with beautiful landscapes .. All are art forms .
Tonight I left and walked down King Street, enjoying the people, the smells , the sights .. I met a man .
His name was Peter.  Peter Duncan . He asked me for money .
I said, "I don't carry cash". He said, "Will you bring me a sandwich?" "I said what kind ?"
Then we talked . I'm chatty. So is he . He is homeless . Clearly he had a drink earlier .
We talked about why . We talked about what he can do to set goals and realistically achieve them .
We went to Subway.
We talked some more.  He is beautiful .
He needs help .

He said, I made his day .
It cost me 30 minutes. And $6.00.
We feel, we see, we hear, we taste, we love. We are human.
If you haven't gone to an art gallery lately or heard some live music .. Go .. Take your kids .. Look for people that just want to be heard and loved .
Open your heart because that is what art is for . To teach.

 Parents, friends and family,

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! We are all so excited to be together again after a long summer break. We have some exciting activities planned for the creativity laboratory (ARTstudio).
The art studio is currently under renovation. To explain, I am in the process of adding creativity exploration stations. Each station will have materials for the children to choose how and with what they will express themselves. From line to shape, shape to form and all while mixing and creating color. The goal in the art room is to encourage creativity, as well as promote and foster a deeper sense of self-confidence and self expression. Exploration stations will allow the students to choose and create when they feel they are ready for each media.

In order to provide the best possible prepared environment for each station, please be on the lookout for donating:

1.   Form/Balance-3D station- small items that can be used in sculptures:
such as, but not limited to, small dollhouse items, broken toys, bottle caps, tops , small pieces of wood, spools of thread, (sculpting clay-non drying), model magic, playdoh, duct tape, **Scotch tape and dispensers

2.   Line/Space-Drawing station-graphite pencils, charcoal, knead-able erasers, blending sticks, any cool drawing supplies for the older children who want to practice drawing realistically, drawing books
3.   Shape/Texture/Contrast-Collage station- child appropriate magazines, fun patterned paper, tissue paper, stickers, glitter, glitter glue, scrapbooking type materials, sewing patterns, stencils
4.   Form/Pattern-Sewing station- large plastic needles, sewing thread for primary(yarn with  hard ends for easy threading) material scraps for making pillows

5.   Emphasis/Value-Color-Paint station- food coloring, large coffee filters, baby food jars, qtips commercial condiment containers with lids, small canvases

Thank you in advance for helping our new creativity laboratory get started.

Please feel free to email me directly with any concerns, ideas or encouragement you may have for our program.

I am so grateful to be sharing my ideas and love for your children.

With joy,
Ms. Heather

Creativity makes you stand out in a crowd.
Creativity develops self confidence.
Creativity promotes tolerance and love.
Creativity enables you to see the world in new ways.

"Creative people are curious, flexible, persistent, and  independent, with a tremendous spirit of adventure and a love of play. " Henri Matisse

This is a diary of two schools and their exploration into a deeper sense of creative respect for themselves and each other.
