In creative, collaborative, and self-motivating environments such as Montessori, children explore and express their knowledge through actions, and through their work.
If you take the time to listen and observe, you will see that the children crave all of the arts for communication and expression. Unfortunately the arts are not seen as a funding priority in most school districts. Full time arts specialists are not provided to most schools. This does not allow accessibility of each of the arts to every child. Dance, drama, visual art, and music as well as availability of instruments should be allocated to all schools, everyday. TBH- Allocations for behavioral issues would decrease if the children had increased equal access to the arts.
It's not easy to put on a musical, but it's worth it.
This video is what we do to get in some practice time and creatively work around any environmental or time restrictions we have. It makes me smile. WORKS IN PROGRESS, constant pride and joy!
